Beach clean up - Nov 2013

Most of the Emerald Army plus a few others descended onto Hataitai Beach with sacks and gloves ready to beat the plastic after our school talks by Ryley from Sustainable Coastlines. We learnt the importance of reducing our plastic and waste as it spirals into oceans and seriously affects animal life. We were horrified at the amount of litter that had wound up trapped amongst the rocks. Thanks to all the parents that joined us, we're hoping to make it a more regular thing next year! We found a nest full of baby birds, does anybody know what bird it is?

Sustainable coastlines are an organisation who strive to keep our coasts rubbish free. They organise coastal clean ups in Wellington regularly and these can be found at http://sustainablecoastlines.org.
